Trying to keep up!

Hello good people who we're extremely glad don't wait around for our posts! We have had a hectic two weeks at L&C HQ (Ha!) so much so we can't really remember where to start and have had to check our Filofaxes in order to complete this post. Oh how eighties organised we are!

After writing our new song Skeletons in Wonderland (Listen here!) we decided to go and debut it at an open mic night. We chose Leaf on Bold Street to do so as we have said for ages that we want to go. However we were a little disappointed when we turned up and were given ground rules for the open mic and told we needed our own guitar to play. It was probably just different to our usual experiences where open mic's normally provide a guitar to be used. It would be a real shame if most nights started opting for this as it becomes impossible to find new talent, say in the case of someone that might have just turned up for a drink from out of town, unaware of the open mic and decides to get up. Something to think about.

So we'll continue with the Youth Parliament Elections. We were asked to perform at another awards night at the CRMZ which is something we are always in favour of as it comes with a free meal and lovely atmosphere. On the menu this evening was braised beef and a sticky toffee pudding - Yum! Anywho we played alongside our good musical friend Annie and it was such a great night, really emotional in fact. Reminded us that although some kids may still shout 'goth' at us in the street, there are a small few who do in fact want to make a difference in the world.

Next up was our Gig at The Brink. Well our gig that didn't happen. We are somewhat cursed it seems in the gig world lately. There was a slight technical fault with the PA system meaning the gig was cancelled when we got there. Still, we made great use of the night as it really is a lovely venue and made plans for a takeover we have in the works. Watch this space!

Then we performed at a Help for Heroes charity gig at The Studio. It was organised by Ste and Ryan Steadman who we have played gigs for in the past and raised a fair bit of wedge for the charity! After a bit of a faff around with the line up, the night went smoothly and we really enjoyed getting to wear our military gear... even if we were mimicking a scene from Spice World.

One thing we will point out about the gig is that it became apparent, that even when it comes to charity, some musicians will have a false sense of superiority and feel the need to state their place in a line up that in the grand scheme of things isn't really about them. In the case of this night, it meant that another young band were forced to go on last where said other band didn't even bother to have the grace to stay and watch them perform. We think it should be known that sometimes it is important to remember who you are, I.E not Iron Maiden and work your way up from the ground first whilst remembering that other bands end up paying for your demands.

Last week we had a gig at The Old Roan planned but there was a slight mix up which meant Greedy Jesus decided to put us on at The Zanzibar the night after instead. It's been a while since we've played there so it was nice to do so. It was also rather amusing to be mistaken for LIPA kids. As it was such a last minute thing we had already planned to go over to the open mic at The Brink. So after watching some of the other musicans we headed over there and saw some great acts. Especially the guy with the uke singing about Darth Vader. Anywho we had some rather nice bowls of scouse for tea and played a few tunes. They seemed to go down really well. Unfortunately we had to leave early as we had to rush for a bus (Arriva: please start to run your buses back to Widnes after midnight!) and we were a little disheartened to see that our early dart may have been perceived as ignorance. Anyone who has ever played alongside us will know that we do in fact stay at watch as much of the night as our train and bus tickets allow us to! When we got home we headed to our local open mic at The Wilsons. It was a good night but had a sad undertone as it was the last hurrah for the open mic being held there. It would be pretty sad if our local scene was to lose its only open mic night worth going to. So much so, Claire wrote a little letter detailing her opinions and handed it over to the manager. We'll see if her little green note makes a difference! Haha.

Friday we played at one of our favourite little places, Barcelona Bar. Another top night of music and a chance to add our new song to our set there. Seemed to go down okay! Then on Saturday we played at Head of Steam which to be honest was one of our best gigs in a while! It must have been the matching red dresses or something so we think we may adopt this little gimmick!

Then Easter Sunday we went down to Claire's open mic at The Cherry. It seems to be getting busier each week. Claire ran a competition for the best Easter song which we decided there was not much point in entering after Liam Gallagher's effort which won him a bag of mini eggs.

All in all a rather fabulous two weeks! Thanks to everyone who has supported us lately and come to watch us. Also thank you to the various radio shows that have played our songs recently such as; The Sound of Liverpool with Darren Caine, RadioBasingstoke, CoventGardenRadio and Small Room Radio. You're all amazing and we love you!!!
